Obituary

On the last day of 1933, Glynda Beth Durrett was born to Robert B. and Kathleen Roach Durrett in Jacksonville Texas. Three years later they moved to Tyler where she attended grade school . In 1946 the family moved to Carthage, Texas where she graduated in 1951. She then attended NTSC/UNT where she met and in 1953 married her husband of 53 years Jack R. Shirley of Dallas Tx. who preceded her in death in 2006. After his 3 years of service in the Air Force they returned to Farmers Branch , raised 4 children , and were members of Christ United Methodist FB church. In the 1980's she returned to UNT finishing her degree in Art and was an award winning pastel artist, capturing the beauty and intricate details of her favorite subject, flowers. Beth was a signature member of The Pastel Society of America and had a painting exhibited at the French Embassy in NYC. Survivors include sons Jay D. (Tammee) of Corinth, Kirk B. (Dorothy) of Addison, Ryne J. (Lisa) of Coppell and daughter Lark (Jeff Stevens) of Harrisburg, PA. Grandchildren Lacy, Austin (Amanda), Jack, and Kyle and Quinn Stevens. Great grandchildren Gwendolyn Drew Holman, Owen , Logan , Donovan and Landon. Nephew Bob Nelson of Houston and several beloved cousins.

Beth, we thank you for the love , support, and generosity you showed all of us through the years. We miss you .

Memorial service will be on Monday May 5, 2025 at 11:00 am at Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch, Texas.
