Grace Kyung-ja Lee (Ye)

February 16, 1940 – June 13, 2024

With profound sadness, we share that Mrs. Grace Kyung-ja Lee (Ye) was called home to God on June 13, 2024, at the age of 84. A devoted wife, loving mother, and steadfast servant of God, Grace was called to her eternal rest surrounded by her loved ones.

Born in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea, Grace was the seventh child of Ye Jong-Su and Park Reun-Yi. From a young age, she excelled in her education, graduating from Daegu Girls' High School in 1959. Shortly thereafter, she married her beloved husband, Reverend David Yong-bong Lee, on May 4, 1962. Their union, which spanned 62 years, was a testament to enduring love and unwavering partnership. Together, they raised four children, forming a family deeply rooted in faith.

Grace dedicated her life to serving others, first as the wife of a military officer and later as a steadfast partner in her husband's pastoral mission. After immigrating to the United States in 1980, she embraced her role as a pastor's wife and evangelist with unshakable faith. At Houston Calvary Baptist Church, where she and her husband served for 23 years, Grace fervently prayed for the spiritual growth and well-being of the congregation. After serving at Houston Calvary Baptist Church, Grace and her husband served Cove Korean Baptist Church for 13 years. Even in retirement, her call to ministry endured through the Voice of the Wilderness Missionary Society, which she co-founded to support pastors and churches worldwide.

Grace found beauty and joy in the simple things of life. She had a gentle love for tending to her garden, where each bloom was a reflection of her care and patience. And the twinkle of Christmas lights adorning her home brought her joy and warmth, reminding her of the light and love she shared with everyone around her.

A lifelong learner, Grace achieved her BA, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees, inspiring her family with her dedication to education and faith. She and her husband also established a scholarship foundation at Baylor University, leaving a legacy of opportunity for future generations to be able to answer God's call to them.

Grace is survived by her husband, Rev. David Yong-bong Lee; her children, W Dan (Clara), Charlene I. (Greg Thayer), Julia J. (H Chris Shin), and Joyce J. (Brian B. Kim); and her grandchildren, Ashley Lee (Joshua Park), Emiley Lee, Nathan Lee, Christina Shin, Cassandra Shin (Bryce Henry), and Clarissa Shin.

A memorial service will be held on June 21, 2024, at 6 PM at North Dallas Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service on June 22, 2024 at 10 AM at Korean World Mission Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas. A burial service will follow at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery.

Additionally, the anniversary service will be held at 11:25 AM each year on June 13 to honor her memory.

Grace's life was a beacon of faith, love, and service. Her kindness, perseverance, and devotion left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Whether through her heartfelt prayers, her vibrant garden, or her joy in the twinkling lights of Christmas, Grace taught us to find and cherish the beauty in life's simplest moments.

깊은 슬픔과 함께, 사랑하는 이경자 사모님(예 경자)께서 2024년 6월 13일, 84세의 나이로 하나님의 부르심을 받으셨음을 전합니다. 헌신적인 아내, 사랑하는 어머니, 그리고 변함없는 하나님의 종이었던 이경자 사모님은 가족들의 사랑 속에서 평안히 영원한 안식에 드셨습니다.

경상북도에서 태어난 이경자 사모님은 예종수님과 박륜이님의 일곱째 자녀로 태어나셨습니다. 어린 시절부터 학업에 뛰어나셨으며, 1959년 대구여고를 졸업하셨습니다. 이후 1962년 5월 4일, 사랑하는 남편 이용봉 목사님과 결혼하시어 62년간 변함없는 사랑과 동역의 삶을 살아오셨습니다. 두 분은 신앙을 중심으로 한 가정을 이루시고, 네 명의 자녀를 신앙 안에서 양육하셨습니다.

이경자 사모님은 군인 아내로서, 그리고 남편 목사님의 사역의 동반자로서 평생을 헌신하셨습니다. 1980년 미국으로 이민하신 후, 사모님은 목회자의 사모로서, 그리고 복음을 전하는 전도자로서 흔들림 없는 믿음의 삶을 사셨습니다. 휴스턴 갈보리침례교회에서 23년간 사역하시며, 성도들의 영적 성장과 안녕을 위해 뜨겁게 기도하셨습니다. 이후 코브 한인침례교회에서 13년간 섬기셨으며, 은퇴 후에도 남편 목사님과 함께 광야의 소리 선교회를 설립하여 전 세계 목회자와 교회를 돕는 사역을 이어 가셨습니다.

사모님께서는 삶의 작은 순간 속에서도 아름다움을 발견하는 분이셨습니다. 정성껏 가꾸신 정원의 꽃들은 고인의 따뜻한 마음과 인내를 보여주었으며, 크리스마스 조명이 반짝이는 집 안은 고인이 세상에 나누었던 빛과 사랑을 떠올리게 합니다.

또한, 평생 배움을 멈추지 않으셨던 사모님은 학사, 석사, 박사 학위를 취득하시며 신앙과 학문에 대한 열정을 자녀들에게 본보기로 보여주셨습니다. 또한, 남편 이용봉 목사님과 함께 베일러 대학에 장학재단을 설립하여, 후대의 학생들이 하나님의 부르심에 응답할 수 있도록 귀한 유산을 남기셨습니다.

고인의 유가족은 남편이신 이용봉 목사님, 자녀인 W. Dan (Clara), Charlene I. (Greg Thayer), Julia J. (H. Chris Shin), Joyce J. (Brian B. Kim) 그리고 손주인 Ashley Lee (Joshua Park), Emiley Lee, Nathan Lee, Christina Shin, Cassandra Shin (Bryce Henry), Clarissa Shin입니다.
