Obituary

NATHANAEL MILTON NAT HAAS, was sung into the presence of our passed away on October 14, 2015, surrounded by family. Born to Louise and Milton Haas in Abilene, Texas, on September 11, 1950, Nat was reared in the Northwest where his father was a bi-vocational pastor in small Baptist churches. Awarded the Distinguished Military Graduate citation at Hardin-Simmons University, he entered the U.S. Army upon graduation. After serving in Oklahoma and Germany, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. In his 20-year career in sales management with Procter and Gamble (P&G), he and his wife Ernestine moved around in four states before settling in Dallas, Texas. Following his departure from P&G, he was a consultant and manager for fundraising and non-profit organizations. His relationship with Christ was evident in encounters with everyone he metand he never met a stranger. He was interested in everyone and made all he met feel special, be they clients, restaurant waiters, store clerks, children, the elderly, dignitaries, or the homeless. Many of his childrens friends saw him as second father. He often concluded a conversation with the question: How can I help YOU? How can I pray for YOU? even when he was in a hospital bed.He was a faithful member of Park Cities Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a devoted member of the Sanctuary Choir. He loved music and had a passion for the preservation of sacred moments provided through music in worship. His encouragement and prayer support for music ministry were a daily part of his life.He and his wife Ernestine celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on the day of his home-going. She was his partner, his confidante, his best friend, and biggest supporter. They shared a love of travel and singing, and were blessed to combine these two passions on several choral mission trips domestically and abroad. His son, Isaac, and daughter, Eden, filled his life with joy and pride for who they are and how God is working in their lives. His grandsons were the light of his life, and he was, with his every breath, their loving Opa.Nat is survived by his wife, Ernestine; their son, Isaac Haas, and his wife, Becky, and their sons, Jake, Sam, and Henry; their daughter, Eden (Haas) Harkins, and her husband, Justin; his brother, Ben Haas, and his wife, Judy, and their children; his sister, Sarah (Haas) Gorman, and her husband, Craig; and too many friends to name.Friends and family will gather for a Celebration and Remembrance of his life at Park Cities Baptist Church on Friday, October 23, 2015, at 3:00 pm. Burial will be with military honors at DFW National Cemetery on Monday, October 26, 2015.
