Allie (Louise) Christiansen Hays

Allie Louise Hays passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 85 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Hays was a resident of Brownsville for 56 years. She was the cherished wife of the late Hayden Orville Hays for 58 years. She was the loving mother of three children and their spouses, Christine Smoak (Franklin), James Hayden Hays (Lisa), and Beverly Goode (Phillip). She was the beloved grandmother of six: Suzanne (Kristian) Karlsson, Justin (Jennifer) Smoak, and Kathleen Smoak, Hayden Austin and Landon Hays, and Lauren Goode and one great-grandson, Loke Karlsson. She is survived by her brother, Bill Christiansen of Kingsville, and many nephews and nieces.She was preceded in death by her sisters: Nellie McGee, Marie Waldmuller, and brothers: Fred Christiansen Jr., Don Christiansen, and her infant son, Hayden Hays Jr.Mrs. Hays was born on November 18, 1927 in San Benito, Texas, to the late Fred H. Christiansen and Nellie Walker Christiansen. She attended San Benito schools. After high school, she worked in a florist shop and for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. She married her husband, Hayden, on August 1,1948. She was a homemaker and often assisted her husband in the office of their family-owned plumbing and heating business.She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Brownsville throughout her married life where she sang in the choir, was active in womens ministries, and served tirelessly in many capacities. She also was active in the Garden Club of Brownsville, Texas and served as treasurer for Texas State Garden Clubs. She was a flower show judge, floral designer for many weddings and civic events, and was personally responsible for many beautiful local and state landscape projects. She loved to cook, sew, fish, attend operas, and dance with her sweetheart, Hayden. A memorial service and celebration of life for Mrs. Hays will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Brownsville, Texas, 1225 Boca Chica Blvd.
