Obituary

Hobson, Ret. Lt. Col., Richard "Dick" E. Died Saturday, June 12, 2010. He was born December 24, 1920 in Akron, Ohio to Milton and Marjorie Hobson. Dick is a graduate of Kemper Military School and was called to active duty in February 1942. He served as an infantry officer for eight months before transferring to the Air Corp for pilot training. After graduation, he served as a pilot in the 440th Troop Carrier Group for the remainder of World War II. The Group participated in the invasion of Europe, dropping troops of the 92nd and 101st Airborne Divisions into Normandy, Southern France, the Netherlands, Bastogne, and Germany. Following the war, he served in the headquarters of the Troop Carrier Command. Beginning in 1949, he served on diplomatic status with the Air Attache Office, U. S. Embassy, Lima, Peru. Later he served three years with the Pennsylvania Air Patrol where he met and married Florence Stellabott. They had two children, Kimberly Ann and Susan Lynn, both of whom survive their father. Florence died in January 1985. Dick married Melba Phy in October 2001, she survives him. Also survived by two sons-in-law, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Dick was Commander of the 338th Bomb Squadron, Strategic Air Command, Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, Texas, the last three years of active duty. After retirement Dick moved to Dallas and obtained a degree from SMU's Cox School of Business. He was a Vice President and Trust Officer of Republic National Bank where he was employed for 20 years before retiring in October 1984. A celebration of his life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 408 Park Avenue, Dallas, Texas, Friday, June 18, 2010, 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow at the D/FW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stewpot, First Presbyterian Church, or Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
