A FULL AND RICH LIFE
ANNA FRITSCHE HUNTER (09/21/1911 03/24/2016)
Anna Regina (Fritsche) Hunter of Richardson, Texas passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the age of 104 years young.Anna Fritsche Hunter was born on September 21, 1911, in Mangum, OK, the fifth of five children. She graduated from Mangum High School, where she was captain of her basketball team and won trophies for tennis. She covered sports news for the Mangum Star newspaper. After high school Anna continued to work for the Mangum Star as bookkeeper, then expanded her work to include all seven of the Pulliam newspapers: she traveled the state to troubleshoot. While working in Elk City she met and married Cecil Hunter, an accomplished humorist, airing on the Elk City radio station.Later Cecil worked as Stutterin Sam with Cal Farley, founder of Boys Ranch, on a radio station in Amarillo, where the couple moved. As his public speaking business expanded, Cecil got his pilots license and an airplane, so he could get to speaking engagements faster. When the war years intervened, they moved with their new son, Bill, to Florida, where Cecil was a flight instructor for the military. After the war, they returned to Amarillo, where Cecil started the Amarillo Flying School and their daughter, Jeanne, was born. Cecil became a nationally-known after-dinner speaker at civic clubs, conventions, and corporate meetings, with Anna as his scheduler, travel-arranger, agent, and secretary. The team was a good one! They moved to Tulsa, OK, in 1950 for a more central location for business. Anne Fritsche managed the business (using her maiden name, since businessmen didnt want to speak to his wife!), and kept tabs on their two children. Anne planned his speaking schedule so that the family could all travel together to interesting places during the summer months.Anne and Cecil retired to Sun City, AZ, in 1974. Cecil died in 1986. In 2010 at age 99 Anne left her home in AZ and moved to Richardson, TX, where she lived until her death on March 24, 2016. She is survived by her children, Bill Hunter and wife Martha Ellert, and Jeanne Green and husband Gordon Green; and by six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, scattered from coast to coast.A family graveside service and celebration of her life will be held this summer in Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to Cal Farleys Boys Ranch, 600 SW 11th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.Visits: 0
