Heidi Itashiki, a valued member of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, died May 30, 2018 at the age of 64 after a long but courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born in Jamestown New York, December 17, 1953, she was the daughter of Paul Rudolph Peterson and Clara Ann Magnone Peterson of Jamestown, New York. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelors degree in Music Education and the Hartt College of Music with a masters degree in Violin Performance. She performed with the symphony orchestras of Hartford, Jacksonville, Savannah and Fort Worth before joining the Dallas Symphony in 1982.
Heidi believed her purpose to be a valued member of a team: discovering and creating music that uplifts people to a more meaningful experience in the world. Not only did she have a long career with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, but she taught violin to countless young people in the Plano area, many who have gone on to have careers in music or have become great supporters of the arts. She was known for her hardworking, kind, and passionate spirit by all who knew her. She loved to cook and knit for her family and friends, and took great care of her papillon dog, Gustav.
Heidi is survived by her daughter, Chlo Alexandra Trevor, an accomplished violinist, her son, Ryuu Itashiki, a proficient visual artist, her mother Clara Ann Peterson, sister Paula Renee Peterson McGinness, a sister-in-law, Rebecca Miner Peterson, two nieces and their families, and a number of cousins and their families. She is preceded in death by her father, Paul Rudolph Peterson, and her brother Jan Brian Peterson.
