Obituary

Jack McCurley, father, grandfather, beloved great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, departed on March 10, 2024, leaving a legacy of courage, hard work, and love.

Born in El Reno, Oklahoma, in 1928 to local grocery store owners, Jack was instilled with values of hard work and determination from an early age. At 16, he embarked on a service journey for his country by joining the Texas State Guard. The following year, he enlisted in the Navy, where he was stationed in Guam during World War II.

After the war, Jack's thirst for knowledge and adventure led him to Florida, where he pursued his passion for aviation. He earned his airplane maintenance license and embarked on a fulfilling career as an aircraft engineer at Vought, where his dedication and ingenuity led to the creation of numerous patents in aircraft engineering, cementing his reputation as a visionary in the field.

Jack's adventurous spirit extended beyond his professional endeavors. He was an avid motorcycle rider who embarked on memorable trips from Houston to Florida to visit his beloved Joan, the love of his life and who would become the mother of his children. Their enduring love and partnership stood as a beacon of strength for nearly half of a century.

In addition to his remarkable career and love for adventure, Jack was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves behind five children, ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson, who will forever cherish the memories of his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love.

Jack is reunited with his beloved wife, Joan McCurley, who preceded him in death.

Jack's burial will be at DFW National Cemetery on March 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. His life will be celebrated afterward at Lake Highlands UMC. Donations can be made to the Jack and Joan McCurley Endowed Scholarship at Embry Riddle in his honor in lieu of flowers.
