Robert Reid Jackson, known to hismany friends as Bob, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 17, 2012. He was 93 years old.Bob was a witty, generous, gregarious soul with a Bing Crosby baritone voice. He had a nickname for everyone and never met a stranger.Bob was born in the Panhandletown of Canadian on November 16,1918 to Grace and Coleman Jackson.He had two younger brothers,Frank and Bill, who had both diedbefore him.He started his academic career as an engineering student atTexas Tech, but his studies were interrupted by World War II. Heserved in the Army Air Corps as arequisitions officer stationed in the Pacific. He achieved the rank of First Lieutenant.After the war he attended the University of Texas where he earned a BA degree in Business. He fondly remembered his work/study job as a waiter in the Scottish Rite Dormitory. He often remarked on the transformation he saw in the coeds as they went from rollers and bathrobes at breakfast to coiffed and lipsticked beauties by lunchtime!With his Business degree in hand Bob landed a job with Republic National Life Insurance Company in Dallas. He worked his way up in the company, attaining the position of Corporate Secretary and Stock Registrar by the time of his retirement in 1980.In 1951 he met his future wife, Jeanne Coughanour. They were married on April 17,1952. This year marked their 60th anniversary.After retirement Bob stayed busy. He was an avid golfer and also attended Brookhaven College as a ceramics student and music student. He was a featured performer in Brookhaven
