James E. McFaddin was born on February 1, 1954, in Beaumont, Texas, to Adam and Irene McFaddin. After graduating from high school, he moved to Dallas, where his remarkable intellect and love of problem-solving led to a successful career as a software programmer. Meticulous by nature and quick with a joke, James never outgrew his curiosity. Even after retiring, he was rarely without his laptop, continuing to write code and tackle programming challenges. Though he enjoyed a fulfilling career, his greatest pride and joy was his family. James married Phyllis Ann Mitchell and had four children: Jacqueline Elaine, Phylicia Antoinette, James Eddy Jr., and Phylandra Anne. Retirement gave James more time to enjoy the people he loved most. He continued putting his technical talents and booming voice to use at A Step Up Lounge, enjoyed road-tripping across the country with his daughter, Phylicia, and loved spending time with his daughter Phylandra, helping with home improvement projects, cooking meals together, and sharing plenty of laughter. He also cherished watching his grandchildren, attending their extracurricular activities, and making them meals. These moments reflected what mattered most to James: family, laughter, and time well spent together. James was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jacqueline Elaine McFaddin, who passed away on August 24, 2018. Though she left this world before him, she remained forever in his heart. James is the last surviving member of his siblings. He is survived by his loving children, Phylicia Antoinette McFaddin, James Eddy McFaddin Jr., and Phylandra Anne McFaddin; his daughter-in-law, Bobbie Nicole McFaddin; his cherished grandchildren, Heaven Sani Fuller, Alana Janea Brister, Jada Noelle McFaddin, Ezra Nathaniel McFaddin, and Leia Grace McFaddin; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. The world will sadly be a much quieter place without James. He had a voice that carried, a laugh that was unmistakable, and a personality that made every gathering a little brighter. We will miss his stories, his jokes, his smile, and the love he shared with everyone around him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will continue to bring warmth and laughter to all who knew him.
