Fire Controlman First Class Jeniva Flemming February 7, 1995 – July 20, 2025
With deep sorrow and enduring love, we announce the passing of Fire Controlman First Class Jeniva Flemming, aged 30, who departed this life on July 20th in San Diego, California.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Jeniva lived a life defined by courage, curiosity, and compassion. Her distinguished service in the United States Navy allowed her to explore the world, living in countries such as Spain and Japan, and immersing herself in cultures that expanded her generous spirit and global perspective.
Upon completing her military career, Jeniva pursued a new passion—becoming a barber. In the hands of a master, a haircut becomes more than a style—it becomes a connection, a moment of care—and Jeniva brought that artistry and empathy into every interaction.
She found joy in life's adventures, especially road trips that ended wherever the stars were brightest. Camping along the way, she embraced nature's quiet beauty with a sense of wonder and freedom. Her affection for penguins was a reflection of her gentle humor and deep appreciation for the unique and whimsical.
Jeniva's presence was both fierce and kind, with a laugh that could lighten the heaviest day. She will be remembered not only as a devoted sailor, a skilled barber, and a free spirit—but as a cherished friend, sister, daughter, and soul whose light made the world better.
Her journey continues in the memories of those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jimmie Flemming (December 7, 2024). Jeniva is survived by her parents, Everett and Nancy Flemming; her cherished siblings Danielle Flemming, Dakota Flemming, Jeramee Flemming, Leindy Flemming, Arianna Mitchell, Jade Acevedo-Flemming, and Cindi Acevedo-Flemming; her loving paternal grandmother Minnie "Kate" Flemming; her caring paternal aunties Tracy McGee and Lucinda Rector; her loving maternal grandparents Donald and Shirley Dunlap; and her caring maternal aunties Donna Hogan and Nicole Garner. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and an extended family of proud cousins.
