Jimmie was born on February 24, 1937 in Winters, Tx. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Badgett, mother Veda Rae McHugh, father Lloyd Badgett, and beloved brother Denny Badgett. Jimmie is survived by his two daughters, Christi Badgett, wife of Greg Taylor and Regina George, wife of Jonathan George.

Jimmie loved his God, his family and his career. Jimmie’s three most important values in life were faith, timing, and stickativity.

Jimmie was a top-notch student in high school and attended college at Texas Tech, McMurry and Hardin Simmons graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geology and Math. He earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administrationfrom Southwest Texas.

Jimmie had an extensive fire service career, serving in a number of positions. He spent 12 years with the Abilene, Texas Fire Department where he was the top of his recruiting class and achieved the rank of lieutenant; 8 years as a training consultant with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Personnel Standards and Education; 9 years as a community college instructor in fire service training classes; 34 years instructing at the Texas A&M annual fire training school; and 6 years as a National Fire Association instructor. Jimmie retired after serving 22 years as the Fire Marshal for Dallas County, Tx. His proudest accomplishments serving in this role were the creation of the Dallas County Fire and Rescue Department as well as the Dallas County Household Hazardous Waste program. Since his retirement he also worked for the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office as a Bailiff and as Regional Liaison Officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety. Jim has also been actively involved as an instructor for a number of fire service organizations and colleges and has been actively involved in the volunteer fire service.

He and his family are extremely proud of his service and dedication to the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA). IFSTA is an association of fire service personnel who are dedicated to upgrading fire fighting techniques and safety through training. IFSTA committee members write basic and advanced training manuals for the fire service. Starting in 1974, Jimmie served for forty five consecutive years. He served on 18 different committees and assisted in writing 12 different manuals. He and his wife received the prestigious Marvin Austin Award in 2005.

Jimmie was a devoted husband to Charlotte who he provided for graciously and whom he loved deeply. Jimmie was a wonderful father providing everything from lambs and ponies to his two daughters all the way to their college educations. He treasured the companionship of his beloved miniature schnauzer, Buddie. He loved cars and motorcycles and has beautiful memories of riding with Denny. He served his church by teaching 5 year olds in Sunday School and teaching many years in VBS. He served his community in many proud ways including being a crossing guard at Northwood Hills Elementary School. He was an avid fisherman, master jokester, hilarious story teller and accomplished poem and book writer. He enjoyed traveling and traveled to numerous states in the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii as well as internationally to 12 European countries including a memorable trip to Russia.
