Joan Lenore
Swabb
August 8, 1936 – January 8, 2025
Joan Lenore (Foss) Swabb, age 88, passed away to join her Heavenly Father on January 8, 2025.
Joan was born on August 8, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Albert Foss and Elsa Samuelson Foss. Joan grew up in Minneapolis with her parents and younger brother, Gary, and enjoyed solid high school friendships that lasted throughout her lifetime. Joan graduated from Patrick Henry High School and attended the University of Minnesota. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and landed her first job as a Home Economist in Colorado and then transferred to Wyoming where she met the love of her life, Jim Swabb. They were married in 1964. Joan was very social and friendly to everyone, welcoming many into her home. Joan enjoyed cooking, sewing, organizing, sharing cleaning tips, and raising her two daughters, Marnie and Wendy. She paid attention to details in others' lives and gave of herself to show kindness. She volunteered to teach and sing to toddlers in the church nursery for many years and brought her love of books and stories to her family. She was involved with many women's Bible study groups. For the majority of her career, Joan worked part time as a library assistant with the Hennepin County Library system, and was well loved and respected by many. She loved puppies and would volunteer to walk or care for other dogs besides her own. She loved teaching her grandchildren how to care for their dogs as well. Joan was a huge baseball fan and enjoyed keeping statistics on her favorite team, the Minnesota Twins and could often be seen waving her "homer hanky". She was a quiet, gentle soul, kind to everyone, and a loving and wonderful mother and wife.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Swabb, and is survived by her daughters, Marnie Stone and Wendy Gammello, four grandchildren whom she loved dearly Amy Williams (Jaxon), Corrie Stone, Grace Eng (Jared), and Giano Gammello, and her brother Gary Foss (Taylor) and many beloved nephews and nieces. Joan, loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, will be greatly missed. Joan will be laid to rest with her husband at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on January 17, 2025 at 10:30 am.
