Obituary

Johnny P. Anzaldua, Sr., lovingly known by several as "El Tremendo," passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, in Sachse, Texas, at the age of 80. Born on August 8, 1945, in Cuero, Texas, Johnny lived a full and vibrant life defined by love, hard work, and unwavering 'Brutal' honesty. Though he wasn't a man of many spoken emotions, his humor, honesty and unwavering love was evident in his actions.

For 53 beautiful years, Johnny was devoted to his beloved wife, Anna F. Anzaldua. A true testament to enduring love to his wife, children, and friends, Johnny was the constant presence of strength, steadiness, and humor. Johnny loved deeply and without reservation, choosing his wife and children time after time, throughout his life.

Together they built a lifetime of memories, surrounded by the loving family they nurtured: his sons AJ Jaime, Lupe Jaime, and Johnny Anzaldua, Jr., and his daughters Debbie Guzman, Sandra Guerrero, Aseneth Anzaldua, Ruth Grifaldo, and Renee Anzaldua. His big heart and signature humor will live on through his grandchildren, extended family and countless friends whose lives he touched.

Johnny, a Vietnam Vet, proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves before continuing his commitment to service as a Military/State Police Officer. He later found purpose in a variety of professions, including carpentry, mechanics and HVAC work—earning recognition as an all-around handyman who could, quite literally, fix anything. His craftsmanship extended beyond his profession and his pride. Whether fixing a broken engine, remodeling a neighbor's home, Johnny found joy in lending his hands to help others.

Johnny found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved traveling to visit family, listening to Spanish Christian music and enjoying Western films (with the volume cranked up to the max even at 3am) and had an undeniable sweet tooth for cakes/cookies. His hands were rarely still, his laughter ever present, and his faith unshakeable. He was happiest with a tool in hand, fixing things for others or offering a helping hand to a neighbor in need. A proud member of North Cities Church in Garland, TX, and a proud member of The American Legion. Johnny was a man who believed deeply in service–to God, his country and his community. He often extended his time and talent to those around him, ensuring everyone, from family to neighbors, could rely on his skill and generous heart.

A man defined by his honesty and strong character, he spoke from the heart–directly and truthfully– and those who knew him best respected him for it. His sharp wit and sense of humor made him a joy to be around and even in his later years; he never met a stranger. He made friends easily wherever he went. Though Johnny wasn't one to speak his emotions aloud, his actions were steady and full of care and that spoke volumes.

He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and no-nonsense honesty, Johnny lived by the simple, steadfast motto he often shared: "Say what you mean and mean what you say," and those who knew him best will remember that he always did just that.

Johnny is survived by his children: AJ Jaime (Tam Le), Lupe Jaime (Elizabeth), Debbie Guzman (Johnny), Sandra Guerrero (Freddy), Aseneth Anzaldua, Ruth Grifaldo (Feliciano), Renee Anzaldua (Abel) and Johnny Anzaldua, Jr., (Angelina).

He is survived by his 26 grandchildren: Rosanna, Cecilia, David, Priscilla, Felicia, Marcie, Jennifer, Jimmy, Michael, J.R., Anthony, Jessica, Amy, Angel, Josh, Jordan, Amber, Enrique, Mark, Lil Johnny III, Alyssa, Annalysa, Sierra, Joey, Freddy Jr., and Quinton Anzaldua, along with 28 Great-Grandkids, with special love and attention given daily by his little helpers, Sebastian and Nevaeh.

He is survived by his siblings: Richard Anzaldua (Rosie), Gloria Abrego (Noe), Mary McKiddy (Steve), Manuel Anzaldua, Jr., (Nancy) and Linda Olvera (Elias).

He is preceded in death by Manuel & Mary Anzaldua (parents), Naomi Anzaldua (sister), Jonathan Anzaldua (son), Aseneth Anzaldua (daughter), God's heavenly twin babies (grandkids), Angel Babies-Rumani and Nova (great grandkids).
