Obituary

M. Vance Johnson died peacefully on 9 February 2016 in Dallas, Texas surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Nampa, Idaho on 25 December 1940, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration, and attended law school. He pursued a career in law enforcement, starting during university as a policeman but soon began his vocation with the United States Department of Treasury. Over the course of his career, he investigated many significant criminal cases, protected presidents, dignitaries, heads of state, and was eventually transferred to Washington, DC on a special assignment with The United States Department of Justice in the offices of the Attorney General. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Linda, retired to Europe where they thoroughly enjoyed 17 of their happiest years together in Villefranche-sur-Mer and St. Jean-Cap Ferrat on the French Riviera. Vance felt honored to serve as Senior Churchwarden for 16 years at their beloved St. Michaels Anglican Church in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France as well as 16 years as Synod Representative for the Archdeaconry of France for the Diocese in Europe. Vance and Linda loved international travel. Some of his fondest memories were enjoying gourmet meals and sipping glasses of champagne with good friends overlooking the Mediterranean Sea; spending summers in their favorite Alpine village in Austria; sharing Christmases in Tallinn, Estonia; and delighting in being a member of both The Yacht Club de Monaco and The Automobile Club de Monaco. Vance and Linda returned to the United States in late 2012 and made their home in Dallas, Texas, but continued to frequently return to France until just before his death. He was a member of The Church of the Incarnation and was an active committee member at The Plaza at Turtle Creek. Vance is survived by his wife, Linda; their daughter Holly Johnson-Colt, MD; son-in-law Ross Colt, MD; grandchildren Lauren and Jack Colt; brother Richard Johnson and sister-in-law Wang-Mei and son Daniel; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Diane and William Skip Leonard. A Memorial Service with Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday 12 March 2016 at The Church of the Incarnation in Dallas. A second memorial service will be held at St. Michaels Anglican Church, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France in May 2016.
