Obituary

Joseph (Joe) Chester Patoskie , 91, died peacefully on April 10th, 2025. Joe was born April 24, 1933 in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to Joseph Bernard Patoskie and Petronell Bujak Patoskie. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Beth) Martini Patoskie of 63 years, four children, Joseph (Fran) Patoskie, John (Karen) Patoskie, Jolene (Michael) Kazmierczak, and Jason Patoskie; his five grandchildren, Jared (Natalie), Renae, Megan, and Derek Patoskie, and Michael Kazmierczak, Jr.; three great grandchildren, Jasper, Jude, and Natasha Patoskie; and his brother, Richard (Kathy) Patoskie and nieces, (Kristine and Jonell) and nephew, (Richie).

He attended Scranton University in Pennsylvania on a swimming scholarship. In 1954, he moved to Dallas, Texas to open a franchise for Pepperidge Farm, introducing the company (and its baked goods) to the North Texas area.

Joe and Beth met in 1959 through the Holy Trinity Vincentian Club and began their courtship in 1961. They were married on August 5th, 1961, and started a family shortly thereafter. Joe eventually sold his business and in 1972 moved his young family out West, first to Seattle, Washington, and later in 1974 to San Diego, California opening up additional bread and cookie franchises for Pepperidge Farm along the way.

In 1976, the family moved back to Texas, spending a year in San Antonia. However, his goal was to eventually return to Dallas, a place he missed and truly loved. In 1977 the opportunity availed itself when he took a leap of faith with his brother, Richard, to start their own food company, El Paco Foods in Dallas. The company subsequently grew into a successful business, and he continued working there until he retired in 1996.

Joe loved to golf and in his early years in Dallas had purchased a lifetime membership to the newly established Brookhaven Country Club. Throughout all the moves, Joe maintained his membership and, after moving back to Dallas, he would eventually live out his dream – having a home on the golf course there at the club! He would often golf with his friends in the morning, then sit out on his backyard terrace in the evening accompanied by his beloved pet Westie, Buttons, sipping his glass of wine while taking in the wonderful view and waving to friends and strangers as they approached the 18th green. Needless to say, he (and Buttons) amassed a great collection of golf balls that found their way into the backyard over the years.

Joe was an avid reader and particularly loved mystery novels. He enjoyed watching old movies, dancing, and most especially, playing regular four-some games of pinochle on weekends with Beth and their two best friends, Janis and Bob Andres. He was devoted to his Catholic faith, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus and longtime member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a positive outlook on life, and was a kind, easy-going guy to anyone who knew him.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all their wonderful neighbors, friends, and fellow parishioners for their support and generosity.

On Monday, May 12, 2025, a Rosary at 9:30 am and Memorial Mass at 10:00 am will be held at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Farmers Branch, TX.

In difficult times, Joe would always say, "Roses will bloom again." As the roses start to bloom, may our hearts be filled with Joe's spirit, thinking of him as a new day begins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mary Immaculate School Endowment Trust.
