Obituary for Joy Evaughn McCary Eaton
Joy Evaughn McCrary Eaton passed away at home on February 11, 2025. She suffered from many auto-immune diseases in her lifetime and eventually lost her battle with breast cancer.
For the last 22 years, she was a resident of Poetry, Texas. Joy was born on November 6, 1956, to the late John and Joyce Morgan in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She graduated from Burkburnett High School in 1975.
She had a diverse set of jobs: firefighter, teacher, administrator, sales, and mentoring those with disabilities. Joy was wheelchair bound and always spelled disABILITY, to show that this group of people had amazing abilities, and she championed that cause wherever she could.
Joy is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Eaton, daughters Mary Catherine Evaughn McCrary, Teresa Davis, Anna Sealy, and Catherine Hopkins, three grandchildren, and her brother John Morgan. She is preceded by her son John Eaton.
Joy was a remarkable long time volunteer in many capacities in both servant and servant leader roles. Her volunteer duties took her all over the planet, so she got to know folks from all over the world. Her adopted second homeland is Africa, where she worked with several nomadic tribes. She sat on boards and worked as a mentor, in family courts with judges, in school districts doing ARDs, and even with the defense department.
As a volunteer, Joy impacted many, many thousands of folks over her lifetime. Her main hobby when not volunteering was anything that dealt with fibers or beads. She was well known in the stitching world for her work.
Joy graduated from college very late in life with a degree in Technology and Performance Improvement from North Texas State University with many honors in May 2015. She ended up as a state certified mediator in all four disciplines. She especially enjoyed the role of mediator when children were involved. That work, all volunteer, helped each child get to a better place. To help children in the public education system, she participated in many dozens of ARDs.
She will be missed by many folks from all over this planet.
What truly defined Joy was her faith, which she always put first in all things she did. She truly loved God, followed by the love she had for the United States of America. Her Saint name is from St. Elisabeth the New Martyr.
If you want to donate instead of sending flowers, Joy loved Tejas Girl Scouts which held a special place in her heart.
Memory Eternal to Joy Elisabeth Eaton!
