Obituary

June Caroline (Benz) Crabtree was born May 6, 1928 and went to the Father's house on August 7, 2024 at the age of 96. June was the daughter of Charles D. Benz and Mary Esther (Cope) Benz of Maplewood, New Jersey, where she grew up and graduated from Columbia High School. She went on to attend The Washington School for Secretaries and began a career in secretarial work that led her to a position at Bell Labs, where she met a young engineer from Texas A&M University named Willie A. Crabtree. They were married July 16, 1955 in New Jersey. They welcomed a daughter, Carol Ann, in August of 1956 and a son, Douglas William, in December of 1958.

The family relocated to Dallas in 1957. It was a big change for Mom, however she grew to love her adopted home state and often commented on the friendliness of the people in Texas.

June loved being a homemaker. Mom enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, embroidery, and sewing projects. She also loved animals, especially dogs, and we had several while we were growing up. We managed to drop in some cats along the way also. Mom liked to keep up with current events and she read the newspaper almost every day, front to back. She also had a few radio programs that she enjoyed listening to daily. Mom truly was the heart of our home and it was always a place of comfort, rest, and peace.

After Dad retired, they went on some cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. They always enjoyed visiting with relatives in East Texas and faithfully attended family reunions and various gatherings over the years.

Mom and Dad attended Grace Bible Church in Dallas for several years. They made lots of friends there and collected many good memories.

Mom became widowed in 2013 and moved into assisted living in February of 2019. She lived at The Avenues of Park Forest, later renamed The Grove on Forest Lane, for five and a half years. She made sweet friends there and was well looked after. Extra care for Mom came in 2021 from Home Care Assistance of Dallas, and we are grateful for their kindness and excellent work with Mom over the years. Three Oaks Hospice did a wonderful job supporting Mom and our family for the past 16 months, especially on the days leading up to Mom's home going on August 7th. We will be forever grateful to them for their compassionate and exceptional care for Mom.

June is survived by daughter Carol Crabtree, son Douglas Crabtree and wife Peggy, and New Jersey cousins Joan Kroeter and Barbara Kresan (George).

A separate ceremony for Mom's internment will take place in a few weeks at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, after we receive her cremated remains.
