Obituary

Ronald Augustine Kapp Jr. of Carrollton, Texas passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the age of 65.Ron was born to Ruthe Subbie Kapp and Ronald Augustine Kapp in Ft. Worth, Texas.Baby Ronnie was a few months old before our dad would get to meet his new son, as he was fighting in the Korean War.Growing up an Army brat, Ron lived in many places -Ft. Worth TX, Ft. Leavenworth KS, Ft. Benning GA, Germany, Carlisle PA, Annandale VA, Ft. Worth TX (again), Ft. Leavenworth KS (again), Ft. Sheridan IL, then off to college in Lawrence KS.Childhood memories included German nannies, Bootsie dogs (boston terriers), praying mantises hatching in the car, Thanksgivings at Grammas, pet ducks in the backyard, amazing pit forts, snow forts and igloos, Catholic school uniforms, sisters to pester, jokes to tell, Moms mental illness to endure, ironing for 10 cents per piece, polishing silverware, cleaning the oven when we cleared quarters, and cleaning the floor with a paring knife. At about 11 or 12, Ron was lighting the grill that was on the family patio. To help the charcoal light faster, he thought it a good idea to pour gasoline on the slow fire. Flames ensued and he dropped the burning gas can. But then Ron heroically (?!) grabbed the burning gas can and threw away from the house. Burned hand and burnt grass, but not the house. The lessons learned and quick thinking later earned him an award while working at a gas station during high school. When a car at the gas pump caught on fire, he ran inside to turn off the stations gas pumps, saving a massive explosion. The roots of his gas station years crept back into his love of cars and later selling computer software to car dealerships.Ron went to Immaculata High School for his first 3 years in Leavenworth, Kansas. He was in the debate club and honors classes. He finished his last year of high school in Highland Park, Illinois while our Dad was stationed at Fort Sheridan. Ron then went back to Kansas to go to college at the University of Kansas at Lawrence, where he roomed with high school buddy and lifelong friend, Michael Lohman. He and Michael started a home improvement business while in college, painting and fixing houses. Ron graduated in 1973 with a BSBA in Business Administration from KU.He then launched a 25 year career working in Sales, as an Account Executive, District Sales Manager, Marketing Representation, Project Leader, and Installation Manager. Over the years, he worked for Reynolds and Reynolds, Alldata Corp, General Electric, Data General, Convergent Corporation, and then back to Reynolds and Reynolds. He sold computer software to car dealerships where he met many friends along the way.Ron was married for 10 years (1985-1995) to Cynthia Jeanine Jobe. They spent a few vacations in Costa Rica one of Rons favorite places.Ron made many dear friends on the annual Spring Buffalo River Canoe trip in Arkansas, which started in 1974 and continued for some 25 years, including a lifelong friend, Ira Goldberg. Years later, Ron treated niece Katie and sister Pattie to a half day canoe ride in Dallas, showing off his paddle skills. When our dad died in 1985, the military honor guard was unable to come due to an ice storm. So in his retirement, Ron made it a life goal to wade through government red tape to obtain the honor guard and gun salute in 2014 for the gravesite of our dad, Colonel Ronald A. Kapp (Sr.), as well as getting his complete military record of our dads 31 years of service. Dear friend Melva Walton, watched Rons tenacity to complete that project. For a few years off and on, Ron lived with sister Gigi - endearing and enduring each other. Ron then moved back to Carrollton. He found a dear friend and auto shop buddy in Kamal Dharani.Ron made friends with anyone and was quick to help people out whenever he could, conversing with store clerks and waitresses- seeing worth in every soul.In correspondence with his nieces and nephews, Ron signed off as C.U.R. - Crazy Uncle Ronnie. When each of them entered high school, he generously took them shopping for new clothes. In the past years since Ron retired, he did some home repair, textural painting projects, landscaping and dabbled in sculpture- Sometimes life gives you a handful of nails. He also started writing poetry as an outlet for his inner struggles and sponsored the monthly Dogfest Poetry contest, encouraging family and friends to try their hand at poetry. He loved Art andgoing to see exhibits in Dallas, Ft. Worth, and road trips to Houston or Oklahoma. His sister, Pattie got to share a few of those road trips. Rons last trip was to Austin, TX in Sept. 2015 to attend the wedding of his nephew Michael, where he got to see all his grown up nieces and nephew.Rons health declined as he struggled with minor strokes, high blood pressure, COPD and then lung cancer. Special thanks to Jamison Hardigee, who helped take Ron to doctor appointments and was a friend to the end.Ron is survived by many endearing friends and family: his sister Gigi Kapp, sister Pattie Kapp Ferrick and husband John, as well as nieces and nephew: Anna Ferrick Spalding and husband Chris, Michael Ferrick and wife Dorothy, Elizabeth Ferrick Kiddie and husband Brad, and Katie Ferrick. He also has a great nephew, Jude Spalding, whom Ron affectionately called The Jude Critter (T.J.C. for short). Five days after his death, Ron gained a baby great niece, Alice Ruthe Spalding.Ron will be missed for his expert advice (whether or not you asked for it), wit, and caring nature to friends and family. We love you Ron.We just werent ready to say goodbye. We pray that you are resting in Gods amazing grace and peace.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.Please leave condolences and share memories on this website.
