Kathryn Ann
Heitz
September 1, 1942 – June 29, 2025
Kathryn Heitz, 82, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in her favorite chair, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by love and on her own terms- just the way she wanted.
"Kathy" was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Helen (Schock) and Sylvester Schwan on September 1, 1942. She married the love of her life, Howard Heitz, in May of 1961, and they were inseparable for over 60 years. Kathy spent her career working in finance and eventually retired from MBNA, where her legendary work ethic (and sharper-than-average side-eye) were well known. Together, Kathy and Howard raised a daughter, Vicki, and built a life full of laughter, road trips, strong coffee, and stubborn determination.
She was a woman of quick wit, strong will, and a soft heart. She loved to sit outside and "watch the critters," smoking cigarettes and drinking beer, no matter the hour. She didn't care for fuss or formality- just honest and open conversation.
In her final years, Kathy remained in her home thanks to the devoted, unwavering care of her grandchildren Kalina, Kalina's husband Dustin, and Niko, who honored her every wish- through every late night, every episode of her favorite "game" and "cop" shows, every box of Whoppers, every laugh, and every hard moment. She was also lovingly supported by longtime friends and neighbors who checked in, sat with her, and showed up, all of whom made sure she was never without care or company. Her home hospice team called Kathy an anomaly, and she was. Her strength surprised everyone, but not those who knew just how deeply stubborn and deeply loved she was.
Kathy is survived by her daughter Vicki and son-in-law Don; her grandchildren Kalina (and husband Dustin), Niko, and Shane (and husband Trevor); her great-grandchildren Jack (her "handsome Jack") and Olivia (her "doll"); and her younger sister Sylvia—all of whom she loved with her whole heart. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard, and their son, James.
In her final weeks, she was surrounded by relentless love and care- the kind that made her feel safe, respected, and never alone.
She always said she'd go out "on her own terms," and she kept her word. We can't help but imagine her now with Howard and Jimmy, catching up over coffee and rolling her eyes at everything we're doing down here.
A private service for Kathy will be held at a later date, placing her alongside Howard at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
