Daniel Kim died on July 16, 2019, 6 days before his 27th birthday, at Zale Lipshy University Hospital in Dallas following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born July 22, 1992 in Lansing, Michigan to parents Kyoung Sun Kim and Jong Sook Kim. He grew up in Plano, Texas and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. An architect, Daniel worked with Omniplan Architects at the time of his death, and was previously associated with the firm Lauckgroup/Perkins + Will.

Daniel was enamored with design, architecture, and photography. He always carried a journal, in which he sketched and jotted notes. He was filled with passion and constantly challenged himself. His mother was nervous about him attending art school, but Daniel was insistent and was always diligent in what he wanted to do. Daniel created many art pieces which his mother displayed throughout the family home.

He loved the outdoors and always promised his siblings that they would climb a mountain together or go backpacking. He worked hard through his church, leading mission trips and encouraging more young people to attend. During his illness, he stubbornly went to work every day, took it seriously, and worked tirelessly. He was concerned about letting down the team, a true testament to his loyalty.

Daniel was exceptional at making the people around him feel comfortable. He always smiled, even through his illness, and showed hope and gratitude. He was completely selfless and always put others before himself. He fought bravely until the end.

He is survived by his father, Kyoung Sun Kim, and his mother, Jong Sook Kim; his older brother David Kim; and younger brother Peter Kim.

Daniel was laid to rest in a private ceremony on July 18, 2019 at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center in Coppell, Texas.
