Obituary of LaVerne Al Miller LaVerne Al Miller, 88, of Irving, TX, lived a wonderful life leaving a legacy before his passing on November 16, 2023. Born on May 13, 1935, in Nyack, NY, to Albert Miller and Viola Miller (Fowler), LaVernes call of service, hard work, and indomitable spirit brought joy to all who knew him.
Survived by his loving son, Jeffrey Miller, daughter-in-law Kathryn Miller (Brick) and two granddaughters Lindsey Miller and Mikayla Massey, Laverne leaves behind a family tree that branches out with love and cherished memories. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kimie Miller (Yonemoto), and daughter Traci Massey (Miller).
LaVerne enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 24, 1955, and served honorably in aviation mechanics with multiple units and fought in Vietnam. He retired honorably from active service as a Master Sergeant in 1977. He continued his career in Engineering at Solar Turbines and later retired.
Beginning in 1962, LaVernes spiritual journey led him to the Soka Gakkai International Buddhist Organization, through his devoted support and encouragement from his wife. His dedication, passion, and practice to overcome individual struggles and focus on world peace through the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin and SGI was evident, not only in his life, but in the many lives he touched as he supported and encouraged others looking for spiritual guidance. LaVerne was a true Pioneer member and held many leadership positions in the organization, including Headquarters Chief in Dallas. He was well respected for his mentorship, sought after by many, and devoted to the practice and others by his generous volunteer efforts.
LaVernes family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences during this difficult time. He will be interred on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the DFW National Cemetery with military honors. He will be escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders.
