Dr. Lewis Sheldon Levinson, age 85, of Dallas, Texas, died on Sunday, October 13, 2019 with his family close by. Lewis was born in Philadelphia, PA and was preceded by his parents, Morris and Clara Levinson; and his sister, Bernice (Theodore) Metz. He grew up working in his family pharmacy and soda fountain below his familys apartment where he learned math at a very early age. He did so well with math in his elementary school years, the school had him skip the second grade. He attended an all-boys high school - Central High School in Philadelphia, PA - where he was able to obtain a bachelors degree.Following graduation from The Pennsylvania State College of Optometry School, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served for 21 years. He had assignments in Newfoundland Nova Scotia, Wiesbaden, Germany, Ft. Worth, Texas, Tampa, Florida, and at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He received a Meritorious Service Commendation award for his service in the military. After retiring from the Air Force he went into private practice in Bethlehem, PA until he retired from practicing Optometry in 1980. He and his beloved wife Joan relocated to Dallas, Texas to be closer to their children where he purchased a high end optical retail store and worked with his son Lane Levinson in serving their many loyal customers. His great joys in life were spending time with his family, grandchildren, working and traveling the world with the military. His best qualities were his caring, kind and gentle nature. He was known for his sense of humor, humility and his love for family, which was evident in everything he did.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Lasky Levinson; son, Lane (Pamela) Levinson from Dallas; daughter, Lauren (Jeff) Zlotky from Dallas; sister in law, Sandra Lasky of Dallas; and his five grandchildren, Landry, Ryan, Reid, Allie and Megan of Dallas.We want to thank and acknowledge all the exceptional caregivers who helped Lewis at the end of his life.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his honor to the National Alzheimers Association or the charity of your choice.He will be buried in a private family ceremony at the Dallas -Ft Worth National Veterans Cemetery in Dallas with full military honors.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
