Linda Gay Horton (née Jones), age 85, of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026.
Born on January 22, 1941, in Abilene, Texas, Linda spent her childhood in the close-knit communities of Aspermont and Anson. She was the beloved daughter of Eva Pearl Jones and Morris Shepard Jones, both of whom preceded her in death.
Linda graduated from Anson High School and attended the University of North Texas in Denton. She worked as a medical technician in the Dallas area, later pausing her career to devote herself fully to motherhood before returning to the field with her characteristic warmth and care.
On June 6, 1970, Linda married David O. Horton, beginning a partnership marked by devotion, laughter, and unwavering support. Together they proudly welcomed their son, David A. Horton, in 1974.
Linda embraced life with a gentle, vibrant spirit. She loved to travel, dance—from ballroom to square dance—and share kindness wherever she went. She was generous beyond measure, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand, and never had a negative word for anyone.
She is survived by her husband, David O. Horton; her son, David A. Horton, and daughter-in-law Meghan Horton; her grandson, Michael Horton; cousin Blake Cockrell and his wife Pat; cousin Judy Gulley; and cousin Carmen Deithloff. Her family and friends will forever cherish her gentle heart, her generosity, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life.
