Obituary

Loyce Hurley passed away March 5, 2024 at the age of 97, He was born in Stamps, Arkansas on May 25, 1926, the youngest of nine children. Loyce raised his family in Shreveport, Louisiana and moved to the Dallas area in the early 90s. For the past 15 years he lived in Farmers Branch.

Loyce left high school at the end of the 11th grade at age 17 to join the Marines. He was selected to attend radar school which took him to Utah, Chicago and Corpus Christi. Loyce served on 4 aircraft carriers during World War II, earned the rank of Sargent and was honorably discharged in July 1946.

After his military service, Loyce attained a BS in Electrical Engineering and would eventually earn a MS in Electrical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Education. He spent his career at Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company in Shreveport and retired after 36 years. During those years he held leadership positions in several engineering related organizations. In 1985 Loyce moved to Dallas and began a second career in consulting and association management. He also taught in the engineering programs at UTD and SMU.

Having attended the Methodist Church during his childhood, as an adult, Loyce continued to serve in the Methodist Church in Shreveport. Loyce, Margaret and their four children were one of the founding families of Christ United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday School and served in numerous leadership roles.

Loyce enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching and cooking. He especially enjoyed birds. He could tell you just by hearing a bird's song, what kind of bird it was, mating rituals, migrations patterns and how the coloring might differ from the male to the female.

Loyce is survived by his four children, Jane, Steve, Ruth and Sarah, 7 grandchildren (Cathy, Daniel, Chris, Zachary, Nathan, Austin and Sarah), 6 great-grandchildren (Allison, Hayden, Mia, Wesley, Cassian and Rosie), one great-great grandchild (Zoey) and numerous nieces and nephews.
