James (Jim) Sumner Manning of Dallas, Texas was born on June 15 1928 in Westboro, Massachusetts and passed away on June 25, 2016 in Dallas, Texas.Jim was a WWII veteran and pilot for the Civil Air Patrol. He was appointed to West Point Academy. Later he earned a BA from the University of Oklahoma Northeastern University and a Master of Religious Studies in Theology from Perkins School at SMU. Jim was a Methodist minister in Texas, Oklahoma and Massachusetts during the height of the civil rights movement.Jim had a life-long mission to help find peace, harmony, respect, and cooperation among people of all faiths, cultures, nationalities, races, creeds, and beliefs, and to fight against hate, bigotry, inequality, and intolerance.He was surrounded by his family at his death. Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Kemp Manning; two sons, Jim Jr. and Joe; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and sister, Irene Lamb.Memorial services will be onSaturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:00 am in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the Mexican American Program Fund at SMU-Perkins School of Theology.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
