Margaret Ann
Sanders
September 7, 1937 – June 26, 2025
Margaret Ann (Dillard) "Sissy" Sanders , age 87, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on September 7, 1937, in Orleans, Indiana — a place that always held her heart.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Darwin "Pops" Sanders, her parents Ellis "Punk" and Nettie "Midge" Dillard, and her brothers Sam and Marvin Dillard.
Her memory will be cherished and her stories shared often by those who survive her. She was lovingly known as "Mom" to her sons, Jeff Sanders (wife Nancy) and Mike Sanders (wife Kami). She was "Nana" to her grandson Austin Sanders (wife Amanda), and proudly known as "Nana Sanders" to her great-grandsons Addison and Avery Sanders. Margaret was also "Sis" and "Aunt Sissy" to many special nieces, nephews, their families, and countless friends who became like family over the years.
Born and raised in Orleans, Margaret lived and loved the simple life. After she and Darwin moved from Muncie, Indiana to Texas, Margaret worked in the Carrollton/Farmers Branch School District office until her retirement. Fiercely independent, she lived in her own home in Farmers Branch, drove herself, and managed all of her own affairs - only slowing down after she broke her back in April.
"Margaret, Sis, Nana" was known for her kindness, her calm, caring nature, and her remarkable memory — even in her final days, she never forgot a name, including every doctor, nurse, and caregiver who crossed her path. She loved her family deeply, and there was never a doubt that we were loved in return.
Margaret had a passion for reading and a green thumb for flower gardening. Her independent — some might say "stubborn" — spirit stayed with her until her very last breath.
Friends and family are invited to visitation at the funeral home from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans, Indiana. Burial will follow at Stampers Creek Cemetery in Paoli, Indiana.
