Obituary of Mary Yvonne Gilmore Smith, of Duncanville, Texas passed away on September 2, 2024 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas at the age of 77. Yvonne fought a long courageous battle with Scoliosis and provided years of care for her husband Stanley Smith. Yvonne was born in Hill County, Texas on July 9th, 1947. Yvonne spent her early childhood on her family farm and later moved into a house in Whitney Texas. Being a small community, Yvonne grew up surrounded by family and that created lifelong memories. She attended schools in Whitney, Texas graduating in 1965, then enrolling in Hill Junior College. In June of 1967, she married Stanley Smith of Whitney. They moved to Dallas where they stayed until Stanley joined the US Army. After returning to Dallas, in 1969, Stanley and Yvonne settled in Duncanville in 1971. After being an involved stay at home mother for many years, Yvonne decided to continue her education, enrolling at Texas Women's University. She graduated with honors with a BA in Elementary Education. Yvonne went on to have an enjoyable teaching career and eventually retired from Duncanville ISD with most of her years spent at Hastings Elementary. In retirement, Yvonne was involved in many social clubs with her fellow retired teachers. Yvonne enjoyed her grandchildren and was always up for a good conversation.

Yvonne was proceeded in death by her husband Stanley Doran Smith. Her parents Clyde (Odell) Gilmore and Mary Nell Williams Gilmore. Her brother-in-law Donnie McDuff of Mesquite, Texas. Her grandson Blake Famili.

Yvonne is survived by her son Chad Smith and wife Christi of Coppell, TX. Her daughter Cindy Famili and her husband Hooman of San Diego, CA. Her sister Pam McDuff and her husband John Lytle of Rockwall, Her sister-in-law Lynn Walsleben and her husband Gary of Flower Mound, TX. Two grandchildren Austin Smith and Addie Smith of Coppell. Three nieces Misty Owen, Kelly Maldonado, and Micah Walsleben. Cousins are too numerous to list. Her dog Ollie and cat Missy.

Memorials may be given to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
