Jim was born on April 14, 1946 to David and Margaret Ann McLaughlin in Dallas, Texas. He passed away after a brief illness on July 28, 2013 at the age of 67 in Dallas. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1964, where he excelled academically. He attended The University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1968. He continued his education at The University of Texas School of Dentistry, graduating in 1972. He practiced dentistry in Dallas for over 35 years.In 1980, he married Claudia Crump of Dallas and in 1986 she presented him with a son, Jonathan.Jim was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sibling Kevin McLaughlin. He is survived by his loving wife Claudia, devoted son Jonathan, cousins Sylvia Turnbull and David McLane, and siblings Shawn Aubrey and David McLaughlin.Jim loved his God, his family, and his friends, of whom he had many. He loved life, and the path through his was wide, touching many people profoundly, by means of his magnetic personality, innate compassion for others, extraordinary wit, and sense of humor. He was special, an unforgettable one of a kind, who never knew a stranger nor was ever at a loss with a hilarious quip! He touched many lives in those small everyday ways that are ultimately the most meaningful and precious to us. He was a person of many remarkable qualities, who will be remembered and missed by those whose lives he affected along the way.Early on in his practice, his staff quickly learned that it was necessary to schedule more time than normal for each patient. Jim required this time to catch-up with that person, consult, advise, and generally shoot the bull. He truly loved people and they truly loved him.He loved his wife Claudia and son Jonathan deeply, and was extremely proud of Jonathan, who is a graduate of Texas A&M University.Jim was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at The University of Texas, where he made many lifelong friends. A Longhorn to his core, Jim rarely missed a football game, employing any means necessary to either see or hear the Horns play. For the sake of family tranquility, he and Jonathan had an agreement to pull for one another
