Obituary

Britt Venson Meinzer, 41, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018, in Rising Star, Texas. He was anxiously awaiting a morning deer hunt. He was born September 16, 1977, in Ft. Worth, Texas to Hoie and Louise Meinzer. He graduated from Carrollton Christian Academy in 1996. In 1997 he joined the Marine Corps and earned the rank of Sergeant. He left the Marine Corps in 2002.After leaving the Marine Corps he returned to Carrollton to pursue a career in home construction. He later moved to Tuscola, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Brandee Hart and her two sons, Hayden and Gavin. They had planned to marry on December 30, 2018. Britt was a member of Elm Creek Community Church in Tuscola.Britt was preceded in death by his father, Hoie. He is survived by his fiance, Brandee, future stepsons, Hayden and Gavin, mother, Louise, sister and brother-in-law, Kyra and Jeff Atchison, nephew, Pierce and niece, Rachel, aunts, uncles and cousins.Britt Meinzer was an outstanding United States Marine who faithfully and honorably served our great nation. Britt had his sights set on exiting the USMC in 2001 to return home to his family and friends in Texas when 9/11 fell upon our great nation. Without hesitation or pause, Britt selflessly elected to extend his Marine Corps enlistment obligation to deploy with his F/A-18 Hornet squadron, VMFA-251 Thunderbolts, on the 1st aircraft carrier deployment aboard the USS Roosevelt (CVN 71) following the attacks of 9/11. That USS Roosevelt aircraft carrier deployment was 189 days long, with 159 consecutive days at sea without a port call, setting a new record for consecutive days at sea for a US Navy ship. Britt had told loved ones the squadron was informed it would be a deployment with a lack of port calls. Knowing a very difficult deployment was precisely what he was volunteering for illustrated Britts selflessness and dedication to doing what he believed in. Not only was Britt an outstanding United States Marine, he was an even better family member and friend; his selflessness and heart of gold were testaments to how he lived his life and what kind of man he was to loved ones. Britts eyes were shiny and full of life, his smile was charismatic, and he had a belly busting laugh that could make any crowd join him in tears of laughter.
