Connie Miller, 63, went to heaven on Friday morning, November 30, 2018. She was at home in Carrollton, Texas, when she passed away after a long fight against cancer.Connie was born in Lima, Ohio to Charles and Betty Wallace. She was frequently tormented by her older brother, Bill, but always wanted to do what Bill was doing. After graduating from Elida High School, she graduated from The Ohio State University in Music Education. If you recall the 1977 Orange Bowl halftime, Connie was the (only) female trumpet player. After graduation came several jobs as a music teacher, some instrumental and some in elementary music, with a long break to be at home with her two fun children. For the last 13 years, Connie and the thousand Kent Elementary students in her classes have entertained, with the kids usually not recognizing that the fun things they were doing were part of the curriculum. Parents witnessed tremendous musical performances, as Connie transformed chaos into creativity.Before Connie attended Ohio State, her brother Bill became friends with Mark Miller. While Mark was away in the military, Bill started dating Marks sister, Barb, who also was rooming with Connie in college. Bill married Barb. Seeing the pattern, Mark and Connie followed suit in 1978. That arrangement worked out tremendously for Mark and Connie, who had two terrific children, Megan and Eric. Megan (Jeff Ginn) now lives in Carrollton, while Eric (Leigha Paine) is in Orlando. Three energetic grand-daughters (Abigail, Kaitlyn, Hannah) provided many hours of enjoyment.Connies musical abilities went beyond the classroom to church. For 20 years, Connie was the orchestra director at Highland Baptist Church in Ohio, honoring God with music. At First Baptist Church Carrollton, Connie continued her worship as a trumpet player.One of the blessings of Connies music has been the friends she made at school and church. As Connies health worsened, those friends became more supportive. We are forever grateful to them.Family and friends can gather from 3:00 to 6:00 on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at North Dallas Funeral Home.
