Gayle Phillip Olivares Murphypassed peacefully May 30, 2012, atBaylor Plano Hospital at the age of71. She is survived by her husband, Ken Murphy who she married in 2004, and four children, Roberto & Denise Olivares of Plainfield, NJ;Rebecca Olivares of Sherman, TX;Raquel & Brent Hetherington ofNashville, TN; and Rick & DawnOlivares of Flower Mound, TX; andgrandchildren Roberto IV & JulianOlivares; Austin, Grayson, Olivia,Sierra, Carolina, Leah, Nora, Branson & Mia Hetherington; andRosaLynn & Ricardo Olivares, Jr.Gayle was predeceased by daughterRosaLynn Luz Olivares in 1989.Gayle was born on October 12,1940, in Bethlehem, PA, to John D.and Beatrice Chontos Phillip.Gayle grew up in a musical familyand began performing in dance exhibitions with her parents at the age of three. She entered a piano conservatory at the age of four and continued to perform as a pianist and singer until her marriage to Dr. Roberto L. Olivares and their move to Mexico in 1962. In Mexico, Gayle became a Professor and Director of English Department at the Alexander Von Humbolt Academyin Puebla. During their marriage,Gayle and Dr. Olivares lived in Indianapolis, IN, and Kettering, OH, before moving to Puebla, Mexico, and then returned to Sherman, TX where Dr. Olivares practiced medicine for twenty-five years until his death in 1997. During her time inSherman, Gayle was active as a volunteer for several organizations and was instrumental in founding TheWishing Well to assist children with life threatening or catastrophic illness. She organized and hosted numerousfundraising events for American Cancer Society and the Sherman Symphony. Services will be at Park Cities Baptist Church, 3933 Northwest Pkwy, in Dallas at2:00 Saturday, with a reception immediately afterward.
