Lawrence A. Nelson, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2014. Lawrence was born Feb. 19, 1926 in Dallas to Bera and Fritz Nelson, who preceded him in death. He served in WWII with the United States Navy, then earned his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering at SMU. Lawrence enjoyed a decades long career with Collins Radio / Rockwell International, until his retirement. Lawrence had a close relationship with his brother Stanley Nelson, who proceded him in death, along with sister-in-law, Sue Nelson and nephew, Fred Nelson, whom he dearly missed. Lawrence was a family man who married the love of his life, Betty Nelson, on February 19, 1960, who survives him. Lawrence is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, David & Penni Nelson; daughter, Tina Nelson; grandchildren, Casey, Hailey and Paige Nelson & James and Kimberly Yocum, as well as niece, Suzette Holmes. Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He had many interests over the years including, traveling, camping, hunting, fishing and beekeeping. He was a creative man, who designed and created many inventions of his own solving problems along the way. He will be greatly missed by all.Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. Graveside service will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2015 at 2:15 pm at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.Please send the family condolences.
