Obituary

Jim Overfield passed away peacefully on April 30, 2019 in Ft. Worth, TX. He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Phyllis Premo Overfield. Jim is survived by daughters; LuAnne Overfield Gamble (husband Tom) of Tulsa, OK and Christine Overfield Stutler (husband Jim) of Morrison, CO and son Robert Overfield (wife Dossie) of Cody, WY; and stepchildren, Michael (wife Shelly) Premo of Aledo, TX , Ricky Premo of VT, and Lynn Premo of FL. Jim is also survived by five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his brother Ralph Overfield and several nieces and nephews and their families.He was born on January 23, 1927 in Hyde Park, NY to James Overfield and Minnie Overfield. He grew up in Hyde Park, and graduated from Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in 1944 before serving in the US Navy as a radar operator aboard the USS Polana during WWII from 1944-1946. Upon honorable discharge, he graduated from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. He met Peggy OHare while attending college and they were married in 1948. Employment after college took him to Syracuse, NY and later Malone, NY where he worked for the Franklin County Extension Service as Assistant Agricultural Agent.In 1953 he joined the faculty of Fort Covington High School, Ft. Covington, NY as teacher of Agriculture. He received a Masters of Education degree in 1957 from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. After work as teacher, Guidance Counselor, Director of Guidance/Adult Education/Headstart, Director of Pupil Personnel Services, and Director of Business, Jim continued his employment career at the recentralized Salmon River High School in Ft. Covington. He later married Phyllis Premo and he was named Administrative Assistant to the Board of Education at Crown Point Central School, Crown Point, NY. They first retired to Colorado in 1982 where Jim earned his Real Estate license and also became a Real Estate Appraiser. In 1990, they moved further west to Mead, WA where they split time between there and Northport, WA, the site of his beloved Grandpa Jims Camp. In 2005, Jim and Phyllis moved to Lynn Haven, FL.Jim was passionate about his love of family, horses, skiing, crossword puzzles, cards and playing games with family and friends. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a practical joker and for his sense of humor and ability to smile. Jim cherished time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim enjoyed his work and activities with Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Kiwanis, and Elks. Per Jims wishes, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later time. In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
