Gerald W. Owen Sr. was born in Hill County in Whitney, TX on March 10, 1938 to Orville Johnson Owen and Grace Andrews Owen. He was raised on a farm and graduated from Whitney High School in 1956. In addition to academics, Gerald was a star football and basketball player. He held the Whitney High School rushing record for nineteen years.After completing high school, Gerald enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 4 years and spent most of his time working as an engineer stationed in Morocco.Upon rejoining the civilian world, Gerald found a perfect fit withDallas Police Department where he stayed until retirement as a Unit Commander in Hit and Run in 1992.After retiring from the Dallas Police Department, Gerald spent the first five years enjoying the retired life, traveling the country and comprising an incredibly detailed family genealogy. Soon Gerald's desire to work connected with retired police officers doing traffic counts and providing night securityat Sewell Cadillac where he worked part time/full time for about 15 years.Gerald is preceded in death by his father and mother, Orville and Grace Owen,first wifePatriciaOwen,and a great-granddaughter Addilynn Marie Polizzo.He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jessie Owen of Garland, his sister Peg Pevehouse and two sons Gerald W. Owen Jr. of Terrell and Todd Owen of Dallas.
