Obituary

Obituary of Perry Verne Goldberg Perry was born on April 10, 1947 in Montreal, Canada to the late Tillie Goldberg (ne Alter) and Richard (Mickey) Goldberg who, as a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, had been with the Canadian forces at the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany two years earlier. Perry grew up in Montreal, went through the public school system before entering McGill University where he first earned a Bachelors degree in Science (B.Sc.). He was then accepted into the McGill University Faculty of Dentistry where after four years he graduated as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) in 1972, earning the Gold Medal for placing first in his graduating class. He then moved to Seattle where he was one of two students accepted into the post-graduate program in Fixed Prosthodontics and after two years earned a combined Master of Science Degree in Periodontal-Prosthodontics (M.S.D. 1974) Upon graduation, Perry moved back to Montreal and for the next 23 years divided his time between a full time practice in Fixed Prosthodontics as well as part time teaching in the McGill Faculty of Dentistry as an Associate Professor. In 1984 he and a few colleagues travelled to Gothenburg, Sweden where, under the tutelage of P.I. Branemark, the inventor of the dental implant, he was to learn about implants and how to incorporate them into the treatment of his patients. This was to have a profound affect on his future as one of the pioneers of dental implantology in North America. As such, he was sponsored to travel and lecture worldwide; throughout North America well as numerous locations in Europe, the Orient, Guam, New Zealand and Australia. In 1997 due in part to the political climate, the economy and other factors impacting the English and Jewish communities in Quebec, Perry sold his practice and his home and immigrated to the United States, retaining both Canadian and American citizenship and settling in Dallas Texas where he was soon established in a practice much like his previous one in Montreal and integrated into the Dallas dental community. Since its first compilation in 2003, he was included in nine successive "The Best Dentists in Dallas" list as voted by his peers. He was a member of numerous professional organizations including the Canadian, Texas, and American Dental Associations, The Quebec Association of Prosthodontists, The Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, The Dallas County Dental Society, The American Academy of Periodontology, The American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, The Southwest Academy of Restorative Dentistry and the Academy of Osseointegration. As well, Perry was a Fellow of The American College of Dentists (F.A.C.D.), a Fellow of The International College of Dentists (F.I.C.D.) and a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy (F.P.F.A) all of which are organizations recognizing excellence and contributions in the field of Dentistry. On a personal level, Perrys two sons were born in DallasJonah Nicholas Goldberg in 1998 and Hayden Eli Goldberg in 2000. He was very involved in their formative years, taking them through YMCA Y Guides, coaching their soccer and baseball teams and he took endless enjoyment and satisfaction watching them grow into outstanding talented young men. One of his most life changing experiences occurred in Jerusalem, Israel on the first night of the Jewish holiday Purim, March 18, 2011 when, after two weeks of walking through the Jewish story of the Bible and having two separate encounters with Yeshua (Jesus), Perry accepted Yeshua as his savior and lived his remaining years as a Messianic Jewstrongly maintaining his Jewish identity while living in the knowledge that he had met his Savior. His testimonies can be seen on the following links: http://imetmessiah.com/perry-goldberg-how-i-met-messiah/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgnj8wicVA0&feature=youtube_gdata_player He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Dona Lea Goldberg, his sons Jonah and Hayden, and his sister Dr. Eudice Goldberg of Toronto, Canada, her sons Dr. Michael Konviser and Daniel Konviser and numerous cousins.
