Obituary

Dale Pickens passed from this life November 5, 2019 after battling dementia for several years. Born July 30, 1940 in Somerton, Ohio to Walter and Gertrude Pickens. Graduated from Barnesville High School in 1958 and worked for the USPS. Attended Harding University and received his bachelors degree in accounting in 1971. After college, Dale worked for Alford Merony Accounting Firm, Liquid Paper, Gillette, and Optek where he retired in April 2013.Dale met his wife of 54 years, Linda (Chisam) Pickens at Harding University. They were married June 12, 1965. After graduating from Harding, he and Linda moved to Dallas, TX to begin his career. The family put roots down in Garland, TX.Dale was gifted with a talent for resolving difficult accounting questions. He had a quiet way about him and was known for helping others. He also had a tender spot for animals.Dale is survived by his wife Linda; son Bob Pickens and his wife Linda (Murphy); daughter Talana Gilara; grandson Austin Mickens and his wife Maria; granddaughter Bailey Gilara; brother-in-law J.R. Chisam of San Marcos, TX, sister Donna (Pickens) Jones of Sardis, OH; niece Sandy Jones Kon of Hudson, OH; nephew Eric Jones; niece Erin Jones Boggs, and niece Sheri Jones all residing in Sardis, OH.A graveside service was held Friday, November 8, 2019 at 10:30 am at Wylie Cemetery in Wylie, Texas. Visitation was held at Highland Oaks Church of Christ after the service. Dale was a life-long member of the Church of Christ.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Highland Oaks Church of Christ Missions, Dallas TX, or Friends Place of Richardson, Texas or Health Talents International, Inc. in care of James and Jaunell Teague of Highland Oaks Church of Christ, or your charity of choice.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
