Obituary

John Michael Purtell Jr. of Farmers Branch, Texas passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the age of 74. He was born September 22, 1942.John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharron Brennan Purtell, his 5 daughters and 3 sons-in-law, and 12 grandchildren: Shannon Lattimore and her sons, DJ and Liam; Megan and Gerry Nichols and their daughters, Haley and Brooke; Nora and Dave Bose and their children, Anna, Isabella, Jackson and Keira; Amy Henderson and her daughters, Emily and Sarah; and Drs. Erin and Colin Kane and their boys, Owen and Charlie. He is also survived by his sister, Denise and her husband, Mike Nelson; and his brother, Tomas and his wife, Janette; his sister-in-law, Sue; and his nieces, Darrah and Maura. John is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marie Purtell and his brother, Jim.John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. John graduated from Fenwick High School and went on to attend The University of Notre Dame. John also received his MBA from Loyola University in Chicago. After working for Sears Roebuck for almost 20 years, John pursued a career change moving his family to California to work for Online Microcenter. After two years they moved again and ended up in Dallas, Texas in 1985. Leaving the corporate world to pursue a lifelong dream, John decided to be his own boss and bought Party King Beverages and opened a BCT franchise. He retired in 2012. Never one to sit still, John took a part time job with Home Depot, drove for Uber and spent countless hours as a handyman for his kids and their friends.John was a lifelong avid golfer and loved playing regularly. He had an amazing gift for remembering almost every hole he played on any course. John enjoyed playing poker with his buddies at Brookhaven Country Club. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.John will be remembered as caring, hardworking and dependable. He valued a good effort and always believed the best in people whether they were family, friends, coworkers or employees. We all wanted to make him proud.

Celebration of Life Mass to be held on Friday September 22, 2017 at1:00 pm at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 2800 Valwood Parkway Farmers Branch 75234.Reception at the church following the service.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fr.
