Obituary

James (Jim) Harold Robbs Sr. parted from this life on March 22, 2016. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. Jim was born on June 22, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas to Harry Benjamin Robbs and Elizabeth Shultz.Jim was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Community, a member of the Knights of Columbus, past President of the Catholic Community Credit Union and a committee member of Mary Immaculate Finance Council. Jim also enjoyed a retirement career serving on the Planning and Zoning board for the City of Farmers Branch. Afterwards he ran and was elected for two terms as a City Council Member.He served his country proudly in the United States Army in the World War II. He went to work for Thompson Hayward Chemical Company after leaving the Army and was transferred to Dallas where he met the love of his life, Juanita Butner, on a blind date and they were married on June 4, 1951. Jim was blessed to be a successful entrepreneur and started numerous companies. The first of which was JaRo Chem, which he sold to Ashland Chemicals and became there National Sales Manager, moving his young family to St Louis, MO. He then moved his family back to Dallas and started Racing Fuels Inc. which led him into the drag racing industry and owning a few Funny Cars known as the Drag-on Racing Teams. Afterwards he started an electronics firm known as Astro Loop for citizen band radio antennas. This company led him into the radar detector business where the Bird-Dog Radar Detector was born. He then went into business with his oldest son, James Jr. (Robby) and they started the successful business Super Stone. This led them to buy a small company where his other son Tim joined the family business. They ended up selling this business and Jim retired to his volunteer work with the City of Farmers Branch.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Juanita Robbs of Farmers Branch; sons, James (Beth) and Timothy (Kim); daughters, Penni Nelson (David) and Becci Chrisman; 11 grandchildren, Jon Robbs, Stefani Robbs Taylor, Casey Nelson, Chris Robbs, Hailey Nelson, Sheldon Robbs, Paige Nelson, Nicholas Chrisman, Zachary Chrisman, Sydney Robbs, Alexandra Chrisman and 1 great grandchild, Emma Taylor.Services are scheduled for Monday, April 11, 2016 at Mary Immaculate Church, 2800 Valwood Pkwy, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. Rosary at 11:00am, Mass at 11:30am, a reception to follow.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Immaculate Church.Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
