November 27, 1930 – February 6, 2024
Sam Whitlock, 93, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Lynridge Assisted Living & Memory Care in Murphy, TX. Merit Hospice provided additional support for him at Lynridge over the past couple of years and cared for him during the last week of his life. He was born on November 27, 1930, to Clarence and Ruth Whitlock. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters. He was a loving husband, dad and Big Paw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a friend for life to many. We will miss him.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp from January 1951 through February 1954. He served in Korea during the Korean War. Once he returned to Odessa he worked as a welder in the West Texas Oil Fields. Later he began his own business called Sam's Welding and did this until his retirement.
Sam married Martha Davisson on June 3, 1955, in Odessa, TX. She was the love of his life and he was her "Prince Charming" for 57 years when she passed away in 2013. He was her caregiver for the last fifteen years of her life.
His survivors include 2 daughters – Jan West (Gary) and Julie Rodgers (J.R.); 2 grandchildren – Jonathan (Jamie); and Stephany (Andy); and 2 great-grandchildren – Brooklyn and Landyn; a sister-in-law – Addie Belle; along with many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private Memorial Service on May 11, 2024. The North Texas Funeral Home and Cremations has provided a link for everyone to share thoughts, memories or special pictures of Sam. Thank you for being a part of honoring the memory of his life
