Samuel Rutherford Miller of Dallas, Texas, passed away March 1, 2025, after a series of strokes.

Born in Greenville, Texas, on March 30, 1943, Sam graduated from Greenville High School, and then Austin College in Sherman, where he met his wife, Nancy Nickles Miller. After obtaining a Master in Professional Accounting degree at The University of Texas, he passed the C.P.A. exam. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School and an LL.M. in Taxation from the SMU Dedman School of Law. He was a member of the Texas State Bar Association. He used both legal and accounting disciplines in his career but was most proud of his work at The Center for Democracy in Moscow during the brief period of Russian democracy in the early 1990s.

Sam was a 53-year member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and a ruling elder. He was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow and a 52-year member with perfect attendance at the Rotary Club of Park Cities.

Sam is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Nickles Miller; son Mark Miller (Sarah) and granddaughter Charlotte Miller of Durham, NC; brothers John Miller (Shelby) of Denton, TX, Ben Miller (Georgia) of Denton, and Mike Miller (Connie) of Austin, TX; nephews Alan Miller (Jaime) of Portland, OR, Jim Miller of Denton, and Kyle Miller of Garland, TX; sister-in-law Norma Melgren (Eric) of Perugia, Italy; and many Rutherford and Miller family cousins. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. John H. Miller and Louise Rutherford Miller, and son Scott Daniel Miller.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Neurological Trauma ICU at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and Faith Presbyterian Hospice for their care and compassion.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, March 26, 1:30 p.m. at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas.
