Obituary

Sandra Carol Choate (née Northington), age 72, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, in Plano, Texas surrounded by family. Born on July 14, 1953, in Dallas, Texas, Sandra brought light and love to all who knew her throughout her life.

Sandy was the beloved wife of Steve Choate and a devoted mother to her daughter Carrie Bowers and son-in-law Rick Bowers. She cherished her role as "Mimi" to her grandsons, Connor and Garrett Grimes, who were the pride and joy of her life. Sandra is also survived by her loving mother, Clara Northington; her sister Becky Palmer; and her brothers Tommy Northington, Danny Northington, Allen Northington and his wife Elizabeth, Kenny Northington and his wife Danae, and Bryan Northington and his wife Jill. She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness.

She was preceded in death by her father, Novice Northington, and her parents-in-law, Billie and John McAleer.

Sandy was known for her sweet spirit and compassionate heart. She loved deeply and gave selflessly to those around her. Her family meant everything to her—she adored them all and would do anything she could for them. As the only child, her daughter Carrie held a special place in her heart as did her grandsons Connor and Garrett, who she lovingly nicknamed Tater and Tater Tot. Her love extended beyond people to include animals; she was an avid dog lover who found immense joy in caring for her dogs Spanky, Bentley, Haley, and Boo Boo.

Sandy and Steve married in 1991 and created beautiful memories exploring new places together. Some of their favorite destinations included Greece, Ireland, Italy, Turkey, and the Caribbean to name a few. According to Steve, she was the best travel partner anyone could ever have. She loved a good adventure. When at home, Sandy loved to create beautiful outdoor spaces tending to plants and gardening. Those who knew Sandy often remarked on her inner and outer beauty—a reflection of the kindness she showed to everyone she met.
