Ruiah Pearl Schick of Rowlett, Texas, died June 4, 2013. She was 75 years old.She was born in Michigan and spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma but she considered herself a Californian. Her family settled in the Norwalk area. She attended Wittier High School. She planned a nursing career, and began her training at a state mental hospital outside of L.A. A challenging vocation to be sure, but one she would have been well suited for, as she had such a caring, understanding nature. But her heart took her in another direction. She was wife, mother and a guardian (angel). Her love for animals was well known. Her personal menagerie always consisted of multiple breeds of dogs & cats. She had such patience with them and they responded to her with love and trust. She is survived by her brother, R.C. and wife, Aletha Tunnell; nieces, nephews & her step-son; her sister-in-law and life-long friend, Sherry Morin; and the love of her life, her husband, Ken Schick, who remained at her side and waged war on this pernicious disease. They made a formidable partnership that kept this cancer at bay for 4 years. Ruiah kept the friends that she made, no matter time or distance. Her loyalties never wavered. Her sense of humor stayed intact and we could still laugh so hard that tears ran down our faces. Yes," Ruiah" is an unusual name but it was perfect for this very unusually kind, gentle woman. Be at peace, dear one. Please send family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.
