Divina Diva Maria Self, 47, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018, due to a heart infection.Divina was born January 27, 1971, in Dallas, Texas, to Irene Ramos Prado. She was born with congenital heart disease, and had to overcome many health obstacles throughout her life. As a child, Divina was energetic, helpful, inquisitive and precocious. Her mother called her a little tornado, and nicknamed her flaca (skinny). She loved to help around the house with her brothers.Divina was a 1990 graduate of Grand Prairie High School. She attended Tarrant County College. Divina married her long-time boyfriend and high school sweetheart, Durke DeWayne Self, at a lovely outdoor wedding in 1997. Divina and Durke went on to have four children: Brandon Alexander (18, deceased), Julian Edward (15), Bella Alexandria (12), and Lauren Lynn (10).Divinas children were her true passion in life. When her son, Brandon Alexander, was born prematurely with health issues, she fiercely devoted herself to his care. She was a passionate advocate for Brandon, and all children with special needs. Divina was well known for her tenacity, involvement, and enthusiasm throughout the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District.Divina had a large and diverse group of friends. She was famous for her exuberant, happy, and sometimes crazy personality. She was known as Diva, a nickname she always proudly displayed on her car.Divina was a long-time member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Farmers Branch. She was passionate about volunteering and gave her time to MetroCrest Services and Christ 4 Kids Sack Summer Hunger. Divina worked in Pre-K Religious Education at Mary Immaculate, alongside her son Brandon.Divina is survived by her husband, Durke Self, and children, Julian, Bella, and Lauren of Carrollton, Texas; parents Irene and Roberto Prado of Joshua, Texas; brothers Robert Prado and Marcos Prado; and grandmother Beatrize Prado. She is preceded in death by son Brandon Alexander Self, who passed away November 13, 2017; grandparents Juanita and Emilio Ramos; and grandfather Roberto Prado.A viewing will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, with a Rosary at 4:00 pm, on Sunday, September 16, at the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, Texas. Funeral Mass will be said at 2:00 pm, Monday, September 17, Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 2800 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, Texas.A memorial donation fund has been set up at gofundme.com, Divina Self Memorial Fund.Oh, how precious time is!
