Shirley Jeanne
Blodgett
February 16, 1929 – January 8, 2024
Shirley Alberti Blodgett passed into the presence of the Lord on January 8, 2024. Born on February 16, 1929, to Earl and Gwendolyn Alberti of Omaha, Nebraska, she graduated from North High School in 1947 and the Municipal University of Omaha with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in June 1950. She married her high school sweetheart Ralph Blodgett on August 12, 1950.
She and Ralph welcomed five children into the world. In 1972, her beloved husband Ralph was tragically killed in a plane crash, and Shirley finished raising their five children alone. She remained a widow for the next 52 years and saw God's faithfulness in His care for her.
When the time came that her health required more care, she accepted the invitation to move from Omaha to Richardson, Texas to be near her son Steve and his family. While in Texas she attended two of her grandsons' weddings and enjoyed many family gatherings. It gave her great joy to meet and hold all four of her great grandchildren.
Shirley was loving, cheerful, content, quick to adapt to changes, and very generous. She was active at Dundee Presbyterian Church and in her community. Among other things, she was involved with her P.E.O. chapter, served as a docent at Joslyn Art Museum, and volunteered at Bergan Mercy Hospital, including sitting on their board for a time. She loved animals and supported several animal rescue organizations, especially Hearts United for Animals. The Christmas holidays brought her special joy each year in planning, decorating, and giving gifts to her family members. She enjoyed traveling and made several international trips.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, their son Jeff Blodgett, her brother Richard Alberti and other cherished loved ones. She is survived by four of her children: David Blodgett (Lynn), Steve Blodgett (Shari), Linda Blodgett Treco (Gordon), and Sandy Blodgett Beckett (Steve); her nine grandchildren: Megan Blodgett, Thomas Blodgett (Susanna), Michael Blodgett (Luisa), Andrew Blodgett, Wynne Treco, Kendall Treco, Prescott Beckett, Connor Beckett and Kelsey Beckett; and her great grandchildren: James, Luke, Julia and Lorena.
A memorial service will be held at Dundee Presbyterian Church in Omaha, Nebraska at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Dundee Presbyterian Church is located at 5312 Underwood Avenue, Omaha, Nebraska, 68132.
