The Life of Shirley Beth Skeen

Shirley Beth (Atkins) Skeen, age 91, of Farmers Branch, Texas, peacefully passed away on July 14, 2026. Born to Lesley and Grace Atkins in Bolivar, Texas, Shirley grew up with a sharp mind and a quick wit. She graduated from Lewisville High School in 1953 as Salutatorian, missing the top spot only because of some “Egghead,” as she liked to joke.

Her life changed for the better when she and her girlfriends went to watch wrestling at the infamous Dallas Sportatorium. It was there she met a young soldier named Leonard Trailer Skeen. They married soon after, and Shirley became the cornerstone of their family. As a proud and devoted homemaker, she built a sanctuary of unconditional love, warmth, and support. Her hospitality extended far beyond her household; she regularly cooked massive, loving meals for the employees of their family construction company.

Shirley was the anchor of her family, an exceptional mother, and a cherished Granny and Mimi. When she wasn't caring for her family, she was an avid reader and a fierce competitor at cards and dominoes. Her legendary winning streaks earned her the affectionate nicknames “Domino Queen” and “Lucky Little $#*!”—titles she wore proudly.

Family Legacy

• Preceded in death by: Her beloved husband, Leonard “LT” Skeen; her sons, Doyle Ray Skeen and Jimmy Floyd Skeen and her Brothers Ray Atkins and Bobby Atkins.

• Survived by: Her son, Lenny Wayne Skeen; grandchildren, Jason Wayne Skeen and Tosha Marie Douglas; great-grandchildren, Ethan Clay Douglas and Gavin Ray Douglas; and sisters Francine Winnett and Linda Waddell.
