Doris Maurine Simmons was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on December 29, 1922 as the third daughter of Thomas and Bertha Lester. She passed through Heaven's Gates on December 16, 2011 at the age of 88. Doris worked in a variety of retail centers throughout her career. She worked as a soda fountain waitress in Utah, worked at the Treasury in Dallas and retired from JC Penney. Many remember Doris for her hospitality to all she came in contact with, family, friend, or stranger. She was reunited with her husband Alvey. She was a local resident of the Oak Cliff Area in Dallas, Texas for the past 60 plus years. Known to most people as Doris, the kind neighbor, helpful mother, wonderful sister and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. She loved cats and was surrounded by many cats throughout her years. She loved simple things, the country, living and working on the family farm, family dinners with loved ones, and shared memories spent at Hideaway Lake in East Texas watching various colorful birds with the clean fresh air and playing 42 or Skip Bo with family from dawn unto dusk. Doris loved all of her family and in her final hours of life, she was surrounded by them all in spirit and through prayer. Doris is survived by her sisters Ruby Lester in Wichita Falls, Texas and Ruth Holt in Garland, Texas. She is survived by all three children, Dennis, Pam and Cindy. She is survived by four grandchildren, Kim, Tonya, Carrie and Casey. She had five great grandchildren, Noel, Erin, Jade, Timothy and Kimerly. She spent many long hours with her various nieces and nephews and their children through the years. She was a Proverbs woman. Provers 31 says "The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear of the Lord. Give her everything she deserves! Cover her life with praises!"The memorial services will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church located in Cedar Hill, Texas on Thursday, December 29th at 10:30am.
