Betty Voss Strickland, of Farmers Branch, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 29, 2016.Betty is survived by her three daughters; Amy Elliott and husband, Steve of Flower Mound, Texas, Mayme Campbell and husband, George of Carrollton, Texas, Kristi Purcell and husband, Ken of Lewisville, Texas; her five grandchildren, Justin Strickland of Denton, Texas, Kelly Campbell of Houston, Texas, Connor Campbell of Los Angeles, California, Jack Purcell of Lewisville, Texas, Joseph Giley Purcell of Lewisville, Texas; her sister, Patsy Turner of Dallas, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, the love of her life, General Giley Strickland; and her sister, Mary Jane Voss Davis.Betty was a graduate of U.N.T. in Denton, Texas. She was proud to be a B.O.I. (born on the island in Galveston, Texas.) She called Farmers Branch, where she lived for many years, Gods Country. She taught Physical Education for 17 years, during which she founded the Irving High School Toy Tigers Drill Team with Lucille Casey. She also served as director of the R.L. Turner Lionettes for many years. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the University of Texas Longhorns. Betty then became a very successful real estate broker in Dallas, owning her own real estate company, Betty Strickland Realtors, specializing in the Brookhaven area of Farmers Branch, Texas. She later managed regional offices for Merrill Lynch and Caldwell Banker.Betty lived life to the fullest and made each day count. Her kindness to everyone was legendary as was her generosity. She was very patriotic, and would want you to know she voted on Wednesday. She loved all of us with all her heart. Congratulations on a life well lived, Betty, we will miss you!A memorial mass will be held Friday, November 4 at 3:00pm at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 2800 Valwood Pkwy, Farmers Branch, Texas.
