Susan Candy Luterman

Born September 11, 1943 in Charleston, South Carolina as her father was getting ready to deploy with the U.S. Coast Guard. Susan passed away September 13, 2026 at the age of 83, after a lengthy illness.

Although small in stature, Susan lived a big life. She attended Highland Park Schools, graduating in 1961.

She firmly believed in the school motto “Enter to learn; Go forth to serve”.

Susan loved music, books, vintage movies, jewelry, poodles and above all community service.

Susan met her husband Allen in 1963 at a friend’s house and they were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1965. They were happily married for 61 years. Susan worked many years in the wholesale jewelry business for others as well for herself as SCL Creations. She volunteered as a BBYO advisor for two BBG Chapters and one AZA chapter. She became actively involved in the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Post 256 and served as president of the Woman’s Auxiliary for 2 terms. Under the JWV banner, she and Allen, for 25 years, conducted a monthly Bingo game at the Golden Acres retirement home. For 40 years she co-chaired her HPHS class of 1961 reunions. She also helped establish scholarships named for her class as well as one named for her and her brother within the HP Education Foundation. She followed her father’s footsteps and became actively involved on the board of Dallas Hebrew Free Loan Association, becoming the first female president of the organization in its history. Concurrently she also became active in the International Association of Jewish Loans becoming its president as well.

She was preceded in death by her father Yale Candy, mother Florence Candy. Susan is survived by her husband Allen, her children Adrea Luterman (Michael Reed), Stephen (Nicole) Luterman, her grandchildren, Kathryn, Chloe and Harrison, her brother Jerry (Suzanne) Candy, her brother in laws, David (Libby) Luterman and Gerald (Tina, z''l) McKim, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on September 15th, graveside at the Congregation Shearith Israel Memorial Park on Dolphin Road.
