Obituary

Clophas was called home by our passed away and Savior Jesus Christ on January 13, 2012.He was born August 7, 1925 in Hardesty, Oklahoma, the oldest child of Oda and Anna Sutton.Clophas enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August, 1943, and served as a radio man on the USS Hector.Living in Amarillo, Texas, most of his adult life, he worked for Furr Food Stores and started the meat department for Affiliated Foods. He owned Sutton Foods in Amarillo.In 1974, he became a realtor. After working in several offices, he started Sutton Company Realtors. He made the "Million Dollar Club" and was very successful in this endeavor.A lifetime member of American Business Club, he tied for most outstanding president in the nation in 1973-74.Clophas and his wife, Cloie, moved to Country Place in Carrollton, Texas, in 1996.He loved to play golf, travel, and was an avid bridge player.They have been active members of First Baptist Church Richardson. Clophas was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Della Richards and a great-grandson, Nolan Andrew Sutton.He is survived by his wife, Cloie, and four children; Dr. Christopher Sutton (Shirley) of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Sue Jones of Fort Worth, Texas, Lori Carlyle of Coppell, Texas, and Lance List (Katie) of Carrollton, Texas and nine precious grandchildren. (He was looking forward to a great grandchild in February.) Clophas is also survived by a brother, James Sutton (Rachel) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three sisters; Genevieve Reedy of Denton, Texas, Betty Tomlinson of Burnsville, Minnesota and Bonny Hays (Jerry) of Amarillo, Texas; an aunt, Iva Elliott of Hardesty, Oklahoma and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved his family and friends dearly.Visitation will be Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel at the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, Texas 75234.A celebration service of Clophas's life is planned for Friday, January 20, 2012 at 3:30 pm at First Baptist Church, 1001 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas 75080.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given in honor of Clophas Sutton to First Baptist Church Richardson (1001 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas 75080) to continue the message of Jesus Christ.The Sutton family owes special thanks to Dr. David L. Shepherd, Dr. James Saalfield, and the Visiting Nurse's Association for their loving care.Please send the family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.
